Welcome to cybersecurity
Welcome
Cybersecurity is the practice of protecting computers, data, and people from digital harm. As more of life moves online across Africa, from mobile money to school records to health systems, the people who can defend these systems are in high demand.
This course is about defence: understanding threats, setting systems up safely, and spotting trouble in the logs, the way a real security analyst does. No prior experience needed.
By the end you will be able to:
- Explain the core goals of security
- Recognise common threats like weak passwords, phishing, and malware
- Apply basic defences: updates, least privilege, and secure settings
- Read a log and spot a possible attack
Practice
Write down three things in your life worth protecting online, for example your email, your mobile money, and your school account. For each, note what would go wrong if someone else got in.
