Code of Conduct

A safe, respectful, and welcoming community for every learner.

RiseAfrica is a learning community for young people across Africa. This Code of Conduct applies to everyone who takes part (students, mentors, volunteers, instructors, chapter and club leaders, partners, and staff) across our platform, events, chapters, and online spaces.

Our standards

We expect everyone in the community to:

  • Treat others with respect, kindness, and patience, regardless of background, gender, ability, religion, or level of experience.
  • Use welcoming and inclusive language, and assume good intent.
  • Give and receive feedback constructively, focusing on the work, not the person.
  • Respect others’ privacy and only share someone’s information with their consent.
  • Do your own work, credit others’ contributions, and act with academic and professional honesty.

Unacceptable behaviour

The following are not tolerated anywhere in the RiseAfrica community:

  • Harassment, bullying, intimidation, or discrimination of any kind.
  • Sexual language, imagery, or unwelcome advances, especially toward minors (see our Safeguarding Policy).
  • Hate speech, threats, or violence.
  • Sharing others’ private information without permission.
  • Plagiarism, cheating, or misrepresenting your work.
  • Spam, scams, or using the community to exploit or solicit members.

Reporting a concern

If you experience or witness behaviour that breaks this Code, or anything that makes you feel unsafe, please report it. You can email joinriseafrica@gmail.com or use our contact page. Reports are treated confidentially and reviewed promptly. If a young person is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.

How we respond

We review every report fairly. Depending on the situation, we may issue a warning, remove content, suspend or remove someone from the platform, chapters, or events, and where appropriate involve guardians or authorities. We will not retaliate against anyone who reports a concern in good faith.

Scope

This Code applies to all RiseAfrica spaces: the platform, chapters and clubs, events (online and in person), and official communication channels, and to behaviour outside these spaces that affects the safety of our community.

This Code of Conduct is provided in good faith and should be reviewed by qualified counsel and your designated safeguarding lead before launch.
