Practical: Writing · Lesson 6 of 12
Professional emails in seconds
Sound clear and professional, then add your voice
Emails are the easiest place to feel the difference. Copy this prompt and try it:
Act as a polite, professional student. Write a short email to my lecturer
requesting a 3-day extension on my assignment because I was unwell. Under
120 words, respectful, not over-apologetic.
Then:
- Refine: "make it warmer" or "make it more formal".
- Always read it before sending. You are responsible for what goes out.
- Add the real details yourself (names, dates, your actual reason).
Your turn
Write a real email you actually need to send this week, a request, a follow-up, a thank-you, using Role · Task · Context · Format. Refine it once for tone. Send it.
