Understanding papers faster

Academic papers are dense. AI can help you understand one faster, which saves hours. But there is a firm rule: only summarize papers you actually have and will read.

A good workflow:

1. Find a real paper and open it
2. Paste a section, or its abstract, and ask for a plain language summary
3. Read the paper yourself to confirm the summary is right
4. Write your own notes in your own words

A helpful prompt:

Summarize this section in plain language for a student. List the main argument,
the method, and the key finding. Note anything that is unclear or uncertain.

Never cite a paper based only on an AI summary. The summary can miss nuance or get it wrong. Reading it yourself is what makes the citation honest.

Practice

Take one real paper from your list. Get an AI summary of its abstract, then read the abstract yourself. Note one thing the summary got slightly wrong or left out.
