Disclosing your use of AI

Saying how you used AI

Many universities now ask students to declare how they used AI. Being open about it is not a confession, it is good scholarship. It shows you understand your tools.

A simple disclosure might say:

I used an AI assistant to brainstorm topic ideas, to summarize papers I then read in full, and to check the grammar of text I wrote myself. All analysis, arguments, and final wording are my own.

Keep your disclosure honest and specific. Do not claim less help than you used, and do not claim more.

If you are unsure whether something needs disclosing, the answer is almost always yes. Disclose it.

Practice

Draft your own AI use statement in two or three sentences, based on how you plan to use AI in this project. Save it in your working document and update it as you go.
